Representatives of the Ukrainian Government met with the Council of Europe Development Bank

 

Today, on October 27, representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine met with the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB).

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova, Director of the Department of International Financial Projects Kateryna Elishyieva and Deputy Minister of Health Iryna Mykychak. The representatives of the CEB were Director of the Crediting and Social Development Department Cristian Tabacaru, Manager for Ukraine Diana Bertje, and Chief Regional Manager Jasmina Glisovic.

“It should be noted that significant progress has been made in Ukraine's acquisition of membership in the Council of Europe Development Bank. Recently, Ukraine has been taking all necessary measures for the fastest possible accession to the Bank. The Government of Ukraine highly appreciates the opportunity to benefit from the experience of the CEB in matters of implementing socially important projects,” – said Deputy Minister of Finance Olga Zykova.

In turn, Director of the Crediting and Social Development Department Cristian Tabacaru, noted during the meeting that Ukraine, after becoming a member of the CEB, will be one of the Bank's most important priorities in 2023.

Currently, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, is conducting working consultations with representatives of the CEB and the World Bank regarding the preparation of a potential joint project to meet priority health care needs. The project will be aimed at restoring and repairing primary medical care facilities and hospitals, restoring patients' connection to basic medical services, and meeting the demand for rehabilitation services for victims of the consequences of russian armed aggression.

During the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health reported their readiness to cooperate with international financial institutions on mutually beneficial terms, in particular with the CEB, and expressed interest in attracting funds for the implementation of projects in social spheres.

 The Council of Europe Development Bank is a multilateral financial institution with a social orientation. The CEB was created in 1956 with the aim of solving issues related to the socially oriented reintegration of refugees, displaced persons and migrants by European countries. 

Membership in the Bank is open to all member states of the Council of Europe and European countries. Currently, the Bank's members include 40 member states of the Council of Europe, the Holy See and Kosovo.

The current activities of the CEB are divided by sectors: refugees and migrants, construction of social housing, improvement of living conditions, environmental protection, overcoming the consequences and prevention of natural disasters, education, health care, preservation of cultural heritage, public administration, support of small and medium businesses. The advantage of CEB is expertise in the areas of civil infrastructure construction, housing construction, education, and health care.
