Ukraine and Canada Strengthen Customs Partnership

On August 24, 2025, Sergii Marchenko, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine,  and Natalka Cmoc, Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, signed the Agreement on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters. The signing took place during the meeting between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney.

“The agreement signed today opens a new chapter in cooperation between Ukraine and Canada and strengthens the long-standing partnership of our nations. It is an important step towards enhancing customs control and creating transparent and safer conditions for international trade. We are grateful to our Canadian partners for their unwavering support of Ukraine and their commitment to the principles of openness and the rule of law,” said Sergii Marchenko, Minister of Finance of Ukraine.

The agreement provides for the exchange of information between the customs authorities of both countries to prevent, investigate, and combat violations. It will contribute to improving the security of the entire supply chain, which is key to stable economic development.

In addition, the agreement will help Ukraine and Canada more effectively counter smuggling, illicit trafficking of weapons, narcotics, and other dangerous goods.

The document also includes clear mechanisms for the protection of information, including personal data. This ensures transparency and accountability in the work of customs administrations.

The signing of this Agreement confirms the shared commitment of Ukraine and Canada to the principles of partnership and mutual assistance. Its implementation will have a positive impact on the economy, public security, and the well-being of citizens in both countries.
