State Debt to Projected GDP Fell to 45.2% in 2021

Ukraine's total state and state-guaranteed debt in the national currency equivalent amounted to UAH 2,671.83 billion (USD 97.95 billion in FX equivalent) as of the end of December 2021. Compared with the previous month, Ukraine's state and state-guaranteed debt increased by UAH 113.3 billion in UAH equivalent. The increase was due to the attracted concessional financing from the IMF and the IBRD and due to the increased domestic state debt.

As of the end of December, the state debt amounted to UAH 2,362.49 billion (USD 86.61 billion), of which 45% is state domestic debt and 55% is state external debt, which consists of loans from international financial organizations (24.7% of total state debt), Eurobonds (26.5%) and other external debt (4%).

At the same time, public debt to the projected GDP decreased to 45.2%, and state and state-guaranteed debt of Ukraine - to 51.1% (the calculations used the forecast of the Ministry of Economy as of 15.11.2021 of a nominal GDP in the amount of UAH 5,225.5 billion).

The share of state debt in the national currency as of the end of December 2021 amounted to 40.0%.

In December 2021, the Ministry of Finance held 27 auctions on the placement of government bonds, attracting UAH 74.9 billion for financing the state budget.

In January-December 2021 state debt principal payments amounted to UAH 441.1 billion, while service payments amounted to UAH 150 billion.
