Ukraine will Receive USD 100 million Loan and USD 2.3 million Grant from Japan

Today, April 28, 2022, the Government of Ukraine and the Government of Japan signed an Agreement on a loan provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency for development policy in the field of emergency economic recovery and a grant to strengthen the health system and medicine in Ukraine.

The Japanese government will provide Ukraine with a USD 100 million loan on concessional terms. This is the state budget support aimed at stabilizing the situation in Ukraine, in particular, to ensure priority social and humanitarian expenditures, health expenditures, support for internally displaced persons and other priority expenditures.

Loan repayment period - 30 years;  interest rate - 1% per annum.

Japan is also providing Ukraine the grant aid "Economic and Social Development Programme".  Approximately USD 2.3 million grant will be used to purchase medical equipment to support the health and medical system of Ukraine.

During the signing of the Agreement, representatives of the Government of Japan stated that they would continue supporting Ukraine in cooperation with the international community.

The Draft Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of Japan was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on April 15, 2022, together with the agreements, main directions of attracting a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency to implement a joint project with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development Supplement Loan For Second Economic Recovery Development Policy Loan. 

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky was authorized to sign the Agreement.
