Representatives of the Ministry of Finance met with the delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

On Thursday, February 2, a meeting was held between representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

On the Ukrainian side, Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine Olga Zykova and Government Commissioner for Public Debt Management Yuriy Butsa took part in the meeting. The Japanese delegation was headed by Director General of the Middle East and European Department Hideki Matsunaga.

The parties discussed issues related to new potential joint reconstruction projects with JICA, as well as the possibility of the Government of Japan providing medium- and long-term financial support to Ukraine.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed budgetary support for Ukraine from international donors and financial organizations, in particular, the need to finance the state budget deficit.

“We are grateful to Japan, which has been one of Ukraine's biggest donors since the beginning of the russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. We count on the leadership of Japan at the heading of the G7 in supporting Ukraine and further effective cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency. After all, it is extremely important for the Government of Ukraine to ensure all the urgent needs of the state budget, both social expenditures and the need for rapid restoration of critical infrastructure facilities,” said Olga Zykova.

Representatives of the Ministry of Finance also emphasized key priorities that require donor funding for rapid recovery - energy, demining, restoration of residential buildings and critical infrastructure, as well as economic support.

We will remind you that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation on the territory of Ukraine, the Government of Japan provided about USD 600 million loan on preferential terms to finance priority social expenditures of the state budget of Ukraine.
