Ukraine to Attract USD 90 Million Loan from IBRD to Implement Measures to Prevent Coronavirus

April 27, 2021, the Ukrainian delegation held official negotiations with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) on the general project "Emergency Response to COVID-19 and Vaccination in Ukraine".

During the meeting, the participants discussed the issues of the project implementation and financing as well as the expected results. As a result of the meeting, they reached an agreement on attracting a USD 90 million loan from the IBRD to implement the project.

The Project provides for the implementation of measures to prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to strengthen the national healthcare system in general.

Specifically, the project will purchase COVID-19 vaccines for the Ukrainian population in addition to the number of vaccines that have been guaranteed through the COVAX and GAVI partnership. It will allow Ukraine to achieve its primary goal of covering at least 20% of the country's population with the full vaccine.

In addition, the project will implement activities to support an increase in the number of COVID-19 tests, upgrade cold chain equipment as well as medical waste treatment and disposal systems, record and control vaccination, training of personnel involved in vaccination, etc.
